Toward Convergence: Adapting Music Education to Contemporary Society and Participatory Culture12/5/2019 What is the music educators role when students engage with participatory culture?
It is their role to help students participate while incorporating participatory culture by using technology but also still focusing on the task at hand whether in a classroom setting or an ensemble setting. I also think it's the teachers role to provide students with new musical cultures as times change and our society is evolving. How are our students, their peers and the general public engaging with music outside of the school contexts? A lot of people listen to music constantly and especially with technology evolving people can also create music from the comfort of their own homes and still putting their talent out there for people to see. One big one is Covers of popular songs and posting them on YouTube. All you really need is a camera, a voice and maybe a guitar or a keyboard/piano. People can also make their own production studio in their own homes with all the technology out today. People engage with music a lot outside of school.
